Ferrite Memories by ~Samantha-Wright
I forget if I ever posted this here before … anyway, for all you big iron fans out there, what could be the only Multics-related background in existence.

With bootstrap, loader, trigger set,
All needed checkout done,
With core enough and hardware up,
‘Twas time to check Phase One.
The Operator pressed bootload;
Programmers cried, “A toast!”
Just as power failures blacked out
The entire Northeast coast.-Author Unknown

Interactive article on the invention of email
This article is old, but interesting nonetheless. A New York Times piece on Tom Van Vleck, the CTSS operating system (predecessor to Multics and Unix), and the possible inception of email at MIT. Has an interactive feature that allows you to send an email on a simulated CTSS terminal and a game, too.
It’s pretty cool that this little-known software engineer and the operating system he helped create are getting some mainstream recognition after a half-decade of obscurity.

A wonderful film about early timesharing on the IBM 7090. To the best of my knowledge, the OS featured in this film is CTSS - the ancestor of Multics (and subsequently Unix).
